What are simple and understandable books on theory and matstat?

At the institute, I knew and understood something in these subjects. Now almost everything is forgotten. Please advise books that will help me to resurrect the lost knowledge. Preferably, those where everything is stated in a simple and understandable language.

There are two books by Chernova N.I., they favorably differ from the rest in completeness of presentation and examples, simplicity, the only thing is that they contain mathematics in fair quantities.
