What book would you recommend to better understand databases?

I want to understand how to write queries in terms of performance. The book is necessary where it would be explained on fingers as relational DBMS work. But probably different DBMSs have different features, so a book about mysql is best.
Interested in what optimizations, indexes, keys, different storage formats, and so on.
