VPN downloads very slowly a lot of files and normally one big one?

Good day! Linux Debian 10 system. OpenVpn UDP
The problem is that when I connect a VPN copying a folder on 12mb but with a bunch of small files, it goes at a speed of 15-30 kb/s.
When you download one large file, everything works quickly, the speed is 600-800kb / s
Why is this, and how can I disable this enumeration of files? Maybe somehow you can compress files before downloading? Compress in automatic mode of course. Maybe there are ways to index a folder like in Windows so that programs don't do it all the time.
Tried in FileZilla, Nautilus and Windows.
How can I get around this, I want to work as conveniently as in Nautilus sftp:// and everything is like a daddy.

@justhostRU

choose an easier encryption method in vpn?
By the way, there is a sensible article on tuning openvpn speed on Habré itself
