USB power on netbook in sleep mode?
I lead a very mobile lifestyle, and I constantly need mobile Internet in the absence of an outlet. I carry a small HP EliteBook 2530p with Ubuntu on board and an HTC Desire HD. Communicator is very actively used for surfing, diary and mail. In the case of some serious work, it is used as a modem in conjunction with a netbook.
Desire HD has a microscopic battery, which lasts me for several hours (after all sorts of optimizations and dances with a tambourine around the firmware, as well as buying a "kind of extended" Chinese battery). Due to the features of the case, the battery is inserted into the slot on the side, which eliminates the appearance of extended batteries of a larger volume. Also, the inconvenient and too tight cover makes the process of replacing the battery as such very inconvenient.
I know some laptops have a USB powered sleep feature which is very handy to use to charge your phone.

The technology is a branch of Powered_USB developed by IBM, respectively, and a patent behind them.
The same extension that allows you to power the usb hub when the laptop is turned off is called Always-On USB . Usually one of the hubs is marked as Always-On USB hub, for example, in yellow or red, activation via BIOS is also required.
Despite the fact that the patent is for IBM, they sell the rights to use it to other brands, such as ASUS .

HZ, three of my laptops in sleep mode are powered by USB, regardless of OS. Apple devices, however, do not know how to use it, but Desire does.
I'm not sure that this feature will work in Linux, as always, at the expense of sleep modes and Linux power saving in catching up.
But in general, there are batteries with a larger capacity for dezir, + 200mA / h without bulging, and somewhere around 2x the capacity of the battery bulging out of the case.
On some laptops, I saw in the instructions that power in hibernation mode is sold only to some ports. as an option, try to insert into different ports and look at the charge
Samsung NC215S has a special port that can charge devices directly from the solar battery.
And the power to the USB ports in standby mode (it cannot be supplied in sleep mode) is usually very small and the device connected to such a port is discharged faster than it is charging (if the display is just on. Or even during active attempts to find a 3G network). I'm talking about ordinary laptops.
