Sending pictures by mail on HTC Desire V?

I bought HTC Desire V with android 4.0 on board and there was a problem with sending images via gmail.
Step 1:
I tried to send through the built-in application, but nothing happened - the sending animation spins, and then when it disappears and nothing is sent.
Step 2:
I tried to send through a standard browser, it also hangs and writes that an attachment is in progress, the same story with chrome and opera.
Step 3:
The only way to mail it was to upload it to skyDrive and send it from there.
I would be grateful for any advice or hints.

4) Through a shared mail app?
5) Other files, binary and text?
