URL structure for a blog with categories, in terms of SEO?

At the moment we have the following structure:

• site.name/blog - all blog articles
  
• site.name/blog/post - article without category
  

• site.name/blog/cat - category
  
• site.name/blog/cat/post - category article
  

• site.name/blog/cat/subcat/ - subcategory
  
• site.name/blog/cat/subcat/post - subcategory article
  

Is it normal for posts to be on the same level as categories? If not, what is the best way to arrange?
Form all post urls according to the site.name/blog/post template, and leave the hierarchy inside the article page at the mercy of breadcrumbs?
