Ubuntu as a second operating system?

Initial data, there is a 512 GB SSD laptop
It costs a Windows 10 license (several partitions, recovery, etc.), the total takes 150 GB.
I want to put Ubuntu as 2 system.
Tell me how to properly allocate space so that there is enough space for both Ubuntu and Windows.
In general, ideally, I wanted Windows and Ubuntu to have a common hard drive (as far as I know, Ubuntu reads NTFS perfectly)
For example, how much should be allocated for swap?
under the root directory?
under home? Given that I want to have a data disk one for 2 operating systems?

And the option of installing Ubuntu on a virtual machine (VMware or VirtulBox) is not considered?

ubuntu at the installation stage will give the option "install side by side", you just need to choose how much space to choose, the rest will work by default

Set it to virtual. You'll save yourself the potentially horrific pain of running Linux on real hardware.

As far as I know, Ubuntu reads NTFS perfectly

To read that it reads, but does not write down. Full support for NTFS is announced with new drivers from Paragon, now they are being included in the kernel. But it's too early to talk about full support. Put on ext4 if you don't need extra problems.

When installing - install side by side, select how much it is not a pity for bubunta Put
on a separate partition in etx4 Break
the partition by default, as suggested. Swap is unnecessary if more than 4GB of RAM.
If you need a swap - you can then create it as a file and add it, or choose right away - according to the size of the RAM.

for bubunta and the like
under the root / - 25 hectares is enough for your eyes))
a swap partition is not needed - create a swap file, which is at the root,
if there is enough memory, then 0.5-1GB for every fireman)).
Under the hamster - also 25ga = keep the most basic = configs and often used,
you can allocate the rest for file storage, you can format it in exFAT = it will be visible from Windows
and then you will mount this partition into the system wherever you want.
Why is that? = Yes, it's easier to back up 25ga
I never back up the system - it's faster to put it from scratch,
but the spare hamster lies for a rainy day))
well, and from the system, which configs / files I separately make copies.
What for to back up "all other garbage"? if it can be delivered within 30 minutes.
And if your hands are hooks and you are afraid, then, as already mentioned above, sit in a virtual machine))
