The server gives 200 instead of 404, instead of 404 - 500. How to fix it?

Resource 404 is created and its id is registered in 404 page settings. Published, opened, but the server returns 200. Also, any other page that does not exist - gives 500
The content of the .htaccess file was copied from a normally working site, where the errors are given correctly. But it did not help.
What to do and how to fix? Is this a server setting? Do you need to write to technical support?
