The most modern programs for 3D modeling and animation (cartoon, film)?

I'm interested in character animation. For animation, I like Maya, but what programs are used by modern studios in the USA and EUROPE to create characters (this does not apply to Russia and the CIS countries). Just in terms of speed, there are faster programs for creating a character model, but do these programs use it in practice, or is the creation of a character for animation immediately done in Maya?
