The computer and netbook are buggy. WinXP

The home computer, after prolonged use (for more than 3 years), has recently begun to fail: first one, then the second hard drive stopped working. Rearranged the SATA cables on the motherboard - it worked.
Now, periodically, during the operation of the computer, the sound of a critical error appears (so vile, you know) and after it half of the computer’s functions are gradually turned off, programs stop running, the browser, if it was open, does not open links, quick does not open new windows, the context menu is not called , first on the desktop, and a minute later - in open folders, the start does not start. And all these actions are accompanied by the sound of an unacceptable error, but the error does not pop up anywhere.
I even noticed that KMPlayer shows movies normally if it was launched before these events, but when the context menu is called, instead of 20 items, 4 items remain and they do not work.

I think this is a failure of some windows system file. But how to understand what and what to do?

UPD: the same thing started to happen on a netbook

what about antiviruses?
An easy way to determine whether the problem is in the system or in the hardware is to back up the system disk with something like an acronis, install a bare system and try to work in it. If the symptoms recur, then iron. If not, you can restore the system disk from the image and try to deal with the software.
As for me - if the same glitches on a netbook and a computer, then there is a problem with the software.
What about antiviruses?
Windows updated?

It reminds me of one crash that happened in the mystical hungapp module when using a low-level antivirus or firewall with Hyper Threading enabled, which started just as spontaneously after some time of use. Actually, what protection mechanisms do you have installed and what is your computer configuration? And yet, when the disks failed, they were not visible only in Windows or in Bios too?

On both ESET Nod 32,
Windows is not updated on both, after wault.exe started loading 100%
CPU between dropbox computers, and it contains a portable version of the programs that I constantly use:
ccleaner228\
CintaNotes\
denwer\
FileZilla\
FontViewer\
KeePass \
Launchy\
miranda\
NetSetMan\
npp57\
OS\
PowerOff60\
QIP\
recuva135\
revounistaller\
RnQ\
scaner_free_space\
TaggedFrog\
Total Commander\
CapsSwitch.exe
utorrent.exe

run cmd.exe, write sfc /SCANNOW in it, keep the WinXP installation disk (unfortunately only a real CD, it looks only there) at the ready.
Plus, you can try running Process Explorer (www.sysinternals.com) and leave it hanging in the background, wait for an error and see what services might crash.
Well, of course, run eventvwr.msc and look at the logs, it may turn out that the necessary information is already there.

SFC is not suitable, because I installed SP2 from a disk, and then upgraded to SP3.
Process Explorer launched a couple of times, but as an evil in those times, it was not buggy. Can I prescribe it in the autorun? =)
In eventvwr, the system writes about access errors to disk H, but there are only files on it that I don’t often open, there is no system there. And about errors in bonjour service, itunes module.

Reroll on the SP3 system forcibly. A fairly effective option - often helped out with an unknown underground knock from users.

the case says, give error logs here, otherwise a very vague description of the problem

Of course, you can install updates and clean up bugs, but I recommend throwing away a nine-year-old OS and switching to Win7
