How to open your application through a link on a web page?

I'm trying to set up windows 8 so that clicking on a link with my own protocol (like myprotocol://blabla ) opens my application. The steps described on MSDN only work partially, browsers when clicking on the link warn that they are going to open my application, but do not. Specify your application through the toolbar and "Default Programs" - it does not work, my protocol is not in the list, just as there is no "add" button. The actions described here and here are frightening in their complexity and incomprehensibility. Maybe someone faced such a problem?
Details: Windows 8, 32-bit application, "installed" without any installers and registration in the registry - just copied.
