Terminal server 1C on *nix?

Greetings.
There is a computer server Intel i7 2600 (4 cores 8 threads) 3.4GHz, 16 GB of frame, two ssd screws. On it Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, users of the company (16 people) connect to the server via remote RDP from the local network and run on the 1C server.
Now we are switching to the sql-format of the 1C database from the file format, but there are suspicions that the brakes may still remain. The file base size is almost 8GB.
Here I think - is it possible to file a nix-like OS on a server, raise sql, 1C on it and also connect all users remotely? Will this give optimization, is it possible at all? I suspect it will work better on linux...

@AntohaRomaha

In general, they switched to the skl format - just a song. So far, the question of switching to a Linux server for 1C is not worth it :) Thank you all!
