Tablets - good or bad?

I had to ride the subway for a long time today and look at others. There was at least one person in every carriage with a tablet in hand.
Now, after all, it is fashionable behind the cordon, and even here, to have a tablet.
In this regard, I would like to ask a question to those who already have / had / want to have.
And why should he?
I studied the market, the opportunities for everyone are about the same.
WiFi, BT, big screen, sometimes a GSM module…
Not a phone, not a netbook, not a communicator.
How is it convenient? Why is it needed? How long is it used?

Today a client came to my office with an iPad. In the process of discussing the details of our work with him, I needed one document from him. He immediately found it on the iPad, showed it to me and emailed it. mail. Comfortable, I thought right away) But it’s really convenient.

At 30% I use it as a reader. 20% GPS in the car. 25 each surfing with jabber and video. Galaxy Tab
Comfortable even at home, lay down on the sofa, climbed the net, read mail, etc.
The netbook is still turned on, and it is inconvenient in a semi-recumbent state.
So, for convenience, very even.
And on the road, and it’s not worth talking as it’s convenient.
I also have GalaxyS, but the screen is too small, I have to strain.
Definitely, such a thing will not be superfluous, but it can hardly be called especially necessary.

Well, just for the subway (airplane, train), then it is made, sometimes it is used for those for whom the communicator is too small, and the beech is large. You can read documents / books, play, watch a movie, everything to spend time in the drog with benefit, nothing more. Personally, I have not yet figured out how to apply it in my life - I don’t need it yet.

Actually nifiga not show off. I'm writing from an iPad. Write why I bought it.
1. Firstly, I work as a layout designer, that is, I sit all day. You want to read the news either on the go or lying down. Take a laptop for this? So it will not replace my workplace (sandy bridge i5-2400, 8gb ram, 40gb ssd), and it will be difficult for such tasks, not to mention its autonomy. Netbook? There is a friend who wants to sell, because the nervous system is giving away from the Atom. And the tablet is convenient to read the tape and the tweeter in the evening or on the go or lying down.
2. Series. I like to get distracted and watch a couple of episodes of the series, but again, for this you need to sit at the PC. The tablet helps out and you can lie down.
3. After removing the news feed and tweeter on the tablet and throwing it away, I can finally work normally! It's really cool. And I went to have a cup of tea - I read habr.
4. Reader. The iPad is as handy as a book. I like it in him and I finally started to read all the books (before him) laid down.
In general, it is not in vain that they write that sales of netbooks have fallen. This thing has replaced both my laptop and netbook. He has a lot of applications. It is a pity that not all software is ported to it, but this is also a matter of time. In general, I recommend!

Niche device.
Read a book while traveling between stations (eInki is better for books, but a tablet is still more functional), surf the Internet while you wait for something at the stations (not from a laptop), drive angry birds (don’t carry a psp), watch a video with lectures (on smartphones it’s too small), the server to raise the fallen one (not convenient, but still possible), a lot of things ...
In general, there is a scope. But the target audience is not wide of course.

Atsky is convenient when traveling instead of a laptop, takes up less space and works much longer.
Atski is convenient to climb on the Internet in bed or on the road or in a cafe.
It's nice to watch a movie on the road.

I spend a lot of time on the internet. And not working, so, entertainment, contact, habr, other thematic resources, mail, ICQ. And with all this, I constantly sit at the computer to do this. With a tablet, this can be done while lounging in a chair / sofa. On the bus/subway.
I don't have a tablet, but I draw a conclusion based on psp. When I play psp, I don’t sit, I fall apart on the couch. That's what a tablet is for. Naturally, all this can be done with the help of a phone, but the tablet just has a larger screen. No more.

A prime example of the modern consumer. And expensive, and it is not clear why you need it, you still want it! It’s not just that they advertise it, they swell a lot of money ... And it’s uncomfortable in front of others, to feel backward ...
And these are IT people who, theoretically, should listen to the voice of reason more than to the impulses of the subconscious.
Nothing personal, I myself am.

It seems to me that the question is not quite right. Is alcohol good or bad? Everyone has their own answer to this question, someone cannot imagine a working week without a glass of good dark beer that warms the soul, someone sees it as a waste of money and a completely meaningless occupation.
So are tablets - they do not carry any unique function, of course. All comments like “I can do the same on my Nokia 3310” are correct, it is foolish to argue that reading books and surfing the net can now be done on almost every device a little more complicated than a vacuum cleaner.
But there are things that are terribly convenient and pleasant to do on a tablet. For example, reading books in PDF, or watching a movie while lying in bed, or checking email / reading the news on the way to work, or a thousand other things.
Is all this fun worth $500? Everyone decides for himself; I think so. A very functional gadget for little, in principle, money. It’s not a shame to show yourself and your friends.

The netbook is even more useless, no normal keyboard, no screen.
And the interface will be tight. Is that Linux with some kind of cool DWM to put.
