Tablet with kiosk mode?

I'd like to create an OS (or something) in kiosk mode only. So that there is nothing at all on the OS, only my working application. So that it was impossible to go to the main screen, simply because this functionality does not exist in principle. How to do it? I'm looking because I want to download some files on the tablet, and so that it is just like an e-book, like a regular screen, not a tablet. How to do it? Download android sources, remove everything from there, compile and upload to the device? Or is there a better option?
