System drive for home server?
Requirements:
1. 10 GB is enough;
2. quiet;
3. reliable (within reason);
4. minimum heat generation;
5. correct work with Linux;
While there are options:
1. USB flash;
2. SSD;
3. Compact Flash + adapter for PATA/SATA;

I used flash drives for the system, the issue of optimizing work, turning off logs, transferring all frequently read files to a normal disk is important here.
Without optimization, almost all flash drives died within six months (there were 10 pieces).
I think the first and third options are not very reliable for use as a system disk. The main weak point of flash memory is the number of rewrite cycles.
From the proposed solution, the best solution would be an SSD.

The PSU makes the most noise, but it is generally quiet.
On the balcony you can't hear it at all. From your points I suggest 2. SSD;
SSD (from new generations) take. Even though your server is home, the terrible brakes from USB / CF are unlikely to be pleasant. Don't forget about noatime and stuff.
