Stream encryption system for cloud storage?
I asked myself the question of using cloud storage with stream encryption for remote storage of backups and rarely used files under MacOS.
At the moment, for backups, I am doing a bunch of Arq Backup + Amazon Cloud Drive.
The disadvantages of this solution are the binding to one specific computer with a unique ID and the surprisingly low upload speed of 6 Mbps on a 200 Mbps channel.
I want to be able to mount Amazon Cloud Drive and use it as a network drive, while encrypting files on the fly so that they are stored in the root of Cloud Drive, and not in a separate container. And it is desirable that through the client the files be available for editing on several computers at the same time.
I've tried the following mount options:
1) ExpanDrive .
During testing, he showed himself not from the best side, when the folders were synchronized for a very long time and might not be synchronized in the end.
2) oDrive
Synchronizes normally, but only those files that are transferred to a directory that is monitored by the application. I do not want to break the hierarchy of files for the sake of backup.
For encryption I used the following software:
1. VeraCrypt
"Successor" of TrueCrypt.
Doesn't see ExpanDrive connected Amazon Cloud Drive and Dropbox, which show up as network drives in Finder. Sees only local drives.
You can create an encrypted container file of a fixed size in a mounted folder.
2.GPGTools _
Creates a .zip.gpg file when encrypted. When decrypted, it creates a zip file that needs to be unpacked.
Not suitable for streaming encryption
3. Safe ( EncFS port )
Somehow it works incomprehensibly. Synchronization is very bad. Files are either visible in open form through the web panel, or not visible at all.
4. BestCrypt
Just like VeraCrypt creates containers.
I would be glad to hear suggestions, ideas and feedback on what software is best suited for solving the problem of streaming encryption in cloud storages mounted as network drives.
Thank you!
