OS X is much more comfortable, but you need to get used to it first. If you get used to it, you won't want to switch to Windows. Before buying a macbook, I worked with Ubuntu, and for design / layout I worked with Windows (due to photoshop). It was not very convenient to restart the laptop every time in order to change the OS. I got used to it for about a week or two, mainly to the keyboard. OS X replaces both Windows and Ubuntu. I also discovered Sketch - the best design program.
Surfing the Internet is easier, maybe because I have a retina, it is very comfortable for my eyes, but basically there are no differences.

My fall story :-)
IBM360 -> CP/M -> MS DOS -> Windows -> Linux -> OS-X
Poppy has 4 distinct advantages:
- some kinship with Linux
- the most friendly and comfortable interface of the above systems.
- the Apple ecosystem (I would generally put this in 1st place)
- excellent hardware (both in terms of reliability and consumer qualities)
and 2 drawbacks:
- limited choice of software
- limited opportunities for geeks to "get a taste of the manual"
Price, about which many write as the main drawback of Apple technology, it seems to me just a holivar topic. Comparable in quality (taking into account speed) hardware with Windows on board does not differ much.

I switched from windows to mac. It's been 2 years already. The flight is just great. Unusually, only the first couple of days, then you forget about Windows.
OSX is a great system, all the software for working as a front-end developer is set up in an elementary way.
iMac is a great computer, a huge screen and that's it, no more giant system unit under the table. At the same time, there is enough power with a margin and no noise. You can even play sometimes: Bioshock Infinite, Starcraft, Diablo 3 - no complaints.
I also periodically work on macbooks, also no complaints. The trackpad is magical.
The need for IE is offset by installing Parallels.

Definitely a poppy is more convenient.
But, for example, I now mainly work on a 17-inch HP laptop, since 17-inch poppies are no longer made (((Although, there are poppies at home and I use them with pleasure.

Switched from Windows to MacOS about 4 years ago. First Mac Mini, then Macbook Air 13", Now Macbook Pro Retina 13". I am developing. With MacOS, everything can be done faster. I also sat on Ubuntu for several years, there is something to compare.
Main advantages:
1. Normal terminal. SSH and everything that depends on it works without any putty, etc.
2. A lot of similarities with Linux, ranging from the FS tree to the ability to compile many Linux programs from source and / or install them from package managers like Homebrew. Everything that is needed for development: various language interpreters, docker (client), etc. work without crutches. In close to combat conditions.
3. Safety. Of course, a lot depends on the user. But personally, for me, there are much fewer applications under Mac that drag all sorts of crap along with them and hope that you don’t uncheck “Yes, install all this for me” during installation. Unless Utorrent is trying to shove something. In general, in terms of security, almost all the advantages of Linux systems are relevant. There is transparent encryption of the entire disk, very thoughtful and conveniently implemented backups in the Time machine. All this is very easy to manage, you do not need to be an administrator for this. Everything is done in a few clicks.
4. Convenience. Subjectively, but after working in MacOS, in Windows (sometimes you have to use it), everything seems out of place. However, the transition from Windows to MacOS was very fast. Spotlight is very convenient, almost everything is done through it. A lot of little things, you need to see everything yourself.
5. Very well built devices. Apple technology of recent years is very pleasant to work with. If we compare megahertz, etc. it will not be a favorite, but it turns out to work faster, due to well-thought-out ergonomics. In addition to macbooks, I have 2 Windows laptops with i7, 16Gb, SSD. Very nimble. But the noise, the quality of the keyboard, touchpad, screen, etc. little things do not work for them as effectively. I use them as servers.
There are many advantages, it is possible to list for a long time. For me personally, there is only one minus. One application that I really need in my work is only available for Windows (dbForge Studio for Mysql). There are a lot of crutches in the form of virtual machines (Virtual Box, Parallels) or remote desktops. But that's not it. If there is an application that works only under Windows, you can work 100% effectively with it only in it, or by closing your eyes for some moments. I have only one such application, someone may have more. It is not comfortable. But it's the same in reverse. For example Sketch 3 is the best I've seen for website and app design. It's only for poppy.
Cool theme. To each his own. I know a few people who don't want to switch to a poppy (maybe persuasion). But I don't know anyone who would switch and return to Windows (all developers). You need to decide yourself.
