Spare wheel

Hello others! )

For a long time I want to solve one trifling (in my opinion) task, but something still does not work.
In general, I work under Windows - from time to time something happens to it, well, or there just come moments when you want to “start all over again”.
But each time rearranging everything, updating, configuring, etc. is a complete hassle + waste of time.

I want to do this - install Windows once and all the necessary software - register everything, configure it, etc.
Then make a "cast" of this known working system, which would be ... well, somewhere on a hidden partition of the disk, for example. From which it would be possible to take and recover in case of something. For example, in ASUS laptops, this is pressing the F9 button during boot - after 10 minutes we have a clean 100% working and configured Windows from a hidden partition.

Those. so that when there is a need, I press a couple of buttons and have a clean working AXIS. But at the same time, I want all this to be somehow hidden, so that all this does not an eyesore and does not particularly increase the boot time of the computer.

Any advice, what are the options? Or maybe there are some more advanced solutions? What advice would you give? Ideally, a detailed answer, with the exact names of products, articles, or something else ... but just “Acronis?” I have heard this for a long time ...
Do not offer any ready-made distributions from craftsmen - I love everything myself)

Thank you.

of course Acronis True Image Home
short instructions:
1. a hidden partition is created on the disk (directly from the program)
2. the restore function is enabled at startup (before loading windows, there is a pause of a couple of seconds, if you press F11, True Image is loaded
3. backup of the entire system is made on hidden partition
4. ???
5. PROFIT!!!
the only thing that turns out not as beautiful as on laptops is that you have to wait a little while Acronis itself boots up and select “recovery - select an image - and press the execute button” in it with your hands

Make 2 sections of the same size. Put everything you need on the first one. Boot from any unix liveseed, like frenzy.
dd if=/dev/ad0s1 of=/dev/ad0s2
When restoring, just the opposite command:
dd if=/dev/ad0s2 of=/dev/ad0s1

I've been using Norton Ghost for this for a long time. Saves an image of the entire disk to a file, then simply restores from the file.

Umm... And Acronis? And he has the ASZ feature ...

CloneZilla, I like more than Acronis. No need to install in Windows, I made a boot disk and that's it. The disk is linux, which can make an image and load it to a network drive, via nfs, samba or ssh.

There is no cooler than Acronis in this case.
And what you want, read it - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acronis_Secure_Zone
Only there in English, but you seem to be not small :)

The disadvantage of the solution with a hidden disk is that if suddenly the problems are not in the operating system, but in the hard drive, then the hidden disk will be covered along with everything else.
You do this:
Install the system, all the necessary software, settings and everything. Then you create an image of this disk with an acronis.
Further, following the instructions kb.acronis.com/content/1526 , write it to a flash drive along with this image. That's it, now you have a bootable Acronis flash drive with an image of your system.

Yes, I also recommend Acronis. burn an image of the system (or a local disk, or the entire hard drive) onto a DVD disk, then, if necessary, restore in 10-15 minutes

Indeed, an image of, say, Acronis True Image is the best option. This is how I do it: I install all the software, healers / crackers, customize everything for myself and make an image.
If something has flown off, we boot from the boot disk of this very Acronis, specify the path to the image and install it. IMHO, everything is practical and convenient.

I do this, install Windows, the necessary software, and set everything up. I insert the Acronis True Image boot disk and start from this disk. I do the image for about 10-15 minutes. When Windows crashes, I simply boot from this disk and restore the image (also about 15 minutes). The time savings are simply enormous. Good luck!

I did so. 3 sections:
1. SYSTEM (System partition, for XP no more than 15 Gb)
2. USER DATA (User folders: Desktop, Documents, Favorites, etc.)
3. DATA (Stored: PROGRAM (installation folder), MEDIA, SOFT , torrent, etc.)
Installed OS on the SYSTEM partition, redirected all user folders to USER DATA, installed software on SYSTEM (Office, AVP, other ...).
Using BOOT, Acronis True Image made an image on DATA. I recorded the BackUP.tib image on the BOOT Acronis True Image DVD and put it in the case.
Now, if the system crashes, I just insert the DVD and do a system restore via BOOT DVD (15 minutes at the most), then update the "outdated software". And user documents stay up-to-date and ready to go.
There are little troubles that the software that got up after creating the image still sometimes has to be installed from above, for me it is, for example, Photoshop.
PS The main thing is not to pick up the "muck" before creating the image.

I have already used the following scheme many times -
- Acronis makes a copy of the system disk - an archive with a clean system if it was pre-installed on the laptop, say.
- Next, I set up everything I can, transfer the user folders to the second logical drive, clean the system of temporary files and garbage, and again archive the system with Acronis.
- In case of recovery, the maximum software will work.
It was once said that you can even run XP on another computer like this, under similar conditions, if you install universal drivers for IDE controllers and the like on your native hardware. But didn't check.
In plans — to make an opportunity to be loaded on a local area network in akronis.
Good luck!
In principle, the archive can be stored on the same hard drive, it is possible in a hidden partition, but the speed of copying and recovery will be much lower. And in this scenario, reliability is lost in the event of a disk failure.

I was also interested in this topic. At the end, the following grandiose plan was drawn up to enslave the world :
1. Buy such a miracle for 1 Tb with USB 3.0 for backups.
2. Set up Acronis to backup in real time, without shutting down Windows, according to a schedule (there is also compression and encryption, as well as calling scripts before and after). Scripts are especially useful for those who use EFS: you can first decrypt files and then backup them.
3. On Sunday evening, to receive an incremental or differential backup for a week, to be honest, I did not understand what the difference is. Apparently, only algorithms.
4. There are many useful mini-programs, such as clean deletion of files, etc ;)
And now the sad part:
1. If the backup is running in real time, the machine can not be turned off, but this does not mean at all that it is really possible to work on it.
2. I have a backup on assignment so it's normal and it didn't start.
3. In general, the latest version is buggy, I experimented for a couple of evenings on Win and Lin, the impression that it works somehow according to my mood. In addition, ext4 did not recognize and copied block by block ... I thought that I would not live to the end. :)
4. It looks like Lin is not friends, if you decide to change seats, problems will begin.
Ps The most delicious feature is deploying the Win image on arbitrary hardware, if the OS bitness is suitable, of course. It turned out to be transferred from a virtual machine to a netbook, it was cool. :)

Tell me, is there anything similar for android? I would like to take a kind of snapshot of the whole phone + memory card, and experiment with firmware, and then just a little bit - with one button to roll back to the saved state. Is it possible?)

And why is “Create system image” / “Recover from system image” built into Windows bad?
