Slow rendering of table. What can be replaced?

Tell me, dear HTML gurus, what should I do?..
There is a page with a table for 2000 positions - the result of a query in the database.
Looked in chrome timeline. 70% of the time, whatever one may say (2.4 seconds with styles and autowidth; 1.2 seconds with fixed column widths) is spent on rendering this table.
What can replace the table today? Divas? Something else? What are the best practices today?
Or to convince the user that he does not need to display 2000 records at the same time?
Advise, please, something sensible.
