Should I use a 21-22" monitor?

Replaced a 19" monitor (Samsung 913N) with a 24" Dell UltraSharp (Dell UltraSharp U2415 (210-AEVE))
I was prepared for the fact that the new monitor would be much wider, but not that much. I do
web development, sometimes games, movies (I think that there is a TV for this).
Wouldn't 24" be too much strain on the eyes? Now, it seems that there is an additional load due to the extra space. Is this a temporary effect?
Tell me, how quickly can you get used to such a monitor after 19"?
Maybe it would be right to return 24" and take 21-22"? Will 21-22" be enough for the job?
