Should I trust PageSpeed Insights 100%?
Recently, I began to check my projects on this service, and so, I don’t quite share some of his advice, for example, he demands to remove style sheets from the tag, or he always complains about image optimization, and so on. Is it worth chasing the big figure that this service shows, or not?

Well, here's a simple example for you about image optimization, on the main image they weigh 10 MB, the main one is loaded as slowly, after optimization they weigh 1 MB, this speeds up the loading of the main one by 10 times.
Each point of their recommendations is well reasoned. I recommend that you read in more detail why they all recommend it.
Also, do not forget that Google takes into account the site's rating according to the pagespeed version when ranking. Well, yes, I don’t remember any of their advice being bad. The only thing is that some tips are not quite feasible, such as inlining styles for above-the-fold. On one of the projects, this led to an ugly flash when the main styles were loaded, but this is not because the verification technique is not correct and the implementation of the layout was crooked.
Also, a good half of their advice lends itself to automation. Starting by highlighting these "critical places in css" and optimizing css delivery and deferring jS execution, to all sorts of minifications. Naturally, if the project is old and such things were not originally included in it, then it will be hard.
You can’t trust anyone or anything 100%, except perhaps yourself)
Trust, but verify, this also applies to this service) And there are all sorts of factors that spoil everything.
It's worth trusting the basic advice: for example, expand the viewing area and improve the readability of fonts. And image compression, if the difference is in micro-percentages, it can be postponed until better times.
But you must admit, the larger the number, the more pleasant :-).
Google doesn't take into account "opinion" and the like. PageSpeed is just a webmaster's tool. Another thing is that PageSpeed contains important recommendations that can conditionally be tied to ranking.
Here is an example of a VamShop CMS with a score of 100 out of 100 on all Google PageSpeed Insights tests - https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insi...
On WordPress, use WebP for image optimization. I installed the WebP Express Plugin , the speed of the site increased noticeably. Google no longer swears and does not give the error "You are using modern image formats." One minus, not all browsers support this format, but looking at browser support - https://caniuse.com/#search=webp , we see that 80% of users can view this format.
