Should I include plugins for generating sprites / fonts in the template?

In normal layout I use plugins like sprite generators, image optimizers, font generators (font-magician), etc. But for uninitiated people it will be difficult and you don’t need to install nodejs and a bunch of plugins, it’s easier for them to follow the tutorial - “find this line and change it to the path to your image / font and refresh the page”.
Hence the question : is it necessary to use such plugins at all? Or the visually simpler the mechanism, the better, even at the expense of performance?
