Should I change the GUI in UBUNTU?

Is it worth changing the graphical interface in ubuntu. The default is unity, according to many reviews it is heavy, for example, the browser starts up for a long time. I realized that it is possible to change the gui to another one, and what this will lead to, will the performance increase, and then it will be possible to return everything back. Will these changes lead to any errors? I just don't want to reinstall the system again)))
Thank you in advance.

This will cause the login screen to select one of the installed skins for the upcoming session. You can remove the shell.
Browser startup time - depends little on the shell.

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop
After that, the shell will be xfce. It will be difficult to return, but you will go nuts from the increase in speed. Unity is a long dead product, don't expect further updates from it.

I myself used XFCE for a long time. The thing is good, fast, sometimes comfortable. Now I switched to sneakers ( sudo apt install kubuntu-desktop), a little slower than XFCE, but much faster than gnome fakes and very rich in functionality and customization

Installing other shells is easy, but cutting out a bunch of packages later is still a pleasure. If your system does not freeze wildly, then it will not work faster. I once tested, games worked faster in Unity than in Pantheon, Mate, Cinnamon, GNOME3, XFCE and what else I put myself there. And applications will not start faster. Some shells eat less memory, but if you don't have a hard memory shortage, then this won't help you either.
Unity is a well-optimized shell with a small number of problems, if there are no big complaints about it, then it's better to leave it. And if you want to try others, then it's better to raise the virtual machine and try different options there.
