Sandbox sandbox will save you from viruses, ransomware?

If you run, for example, a mailer - a bird (thunderbird) - in a sandbox sandbox, and a letter containing a ransomware virus arrives there, will it be able to protect the PC from encryption? for example, download a virus file from under the opera, tried it and wmware - everything is fine there, but the program is heavy for resources and is not always suitable, but I haven’t used light sandboxes yet, who will say about this?

Even a full-fledged virtual machine will not give any guarantees, especially considering the possibility of setting it up crookedly or stepping into it. And you want some guarantees from a much less isolated environment.

Well, there is a virtual machine, why not reproduce the infection scenario in the sandbox inside the guest?

No. better full Virtual Windows.
+ install software that prevents the virtualbox.exe \ vmware.exe process from creating EXE / DLL files, and that's it. In case the malware breaks out of VirtualWindows, it will not be able to breed anything. And I don’t think it’s possible to do something dangerous on 1kb of code that escaped.
