Replacement router ASUS WL-520gU
Hello!
I am a "happy" owner of an ASUS WL-520gU Wi-Fi router.
As it turned out, this piece of iron shapes the channel (via ethernet). The provider gives me 100 Mbps, with a router I get ~ 36 Mbps, I tried to connect directly, I got 78 Mbps. Googling found a similar problem with ASUS WL-520g* budget routers. I
tried different firmwares, they were from Oleg (wl500g.info), they were worse, I upgraded to the official beta, got +1 Mbit speed. o_O
Now I'm looking for a replacement for the current device, the financial limit is $ 100. Is it possible to take something interesting for this money, a piece of iron that will not cut traffic. USB doesn't matter. Internet connection via Ethernet. Wi-Fi is required, air speed is not critical.
Thanks

Are dimensions important? Maybe a BU computer with two network cards, a switch and a soft router.
You won't find it for 100 bucks. And 36 Mbps for such pieces of iron is a good result, in my humble opinion.
Dlink 825 I can easily pull 80-90 Mbps via WAN via pptp (local retreker). At this time, I calmly walk around the sites, there are no special brakes imperceptibly (of course, I twisted QoS).
In general, they advise correctly about Mikrotiks.
I had the same problem, with almost the same router. On the recommendation of a sysadmin friend, I took the ZyXEL NBG460N EE. Excellent weight, 802.11n, gigabit ports, powerful hardware… but it costs $150.
I heard that ZyXEL Keenetic is more budgetary, but also not bad. But didn't use it.
If it is not critical to have 2 devices, then I advise you to buy mikrotik, for example rb750g. And from it already wi-fi, through ASUS, although it is desirable to have basic knowledge of networks to configure Mikrotik.
What can you say about TP-Link TL-WR1043ND? Or similar models truncated by flash: TL-WR941ND and TL-WR841ND
On the Internet they write about good speed from WAN to LAN, which is the most critical for me.
$100 is not realistic, but you can try the dd-wrt firmware . I can’t say that it will add speed, but it’s worth a try.
