On 2012 r2, file recovery points are automatically created at a certain frequency, but they almost do not take up disk space, and when 500 pieces are reached, the 501st overwrites the 1st, becoming the 500th, while the 2nd, respectively, the 1st.

By default, it seems, there was a limit of 64 points. Interested in the possibility of increasing this limit.

And I highly do not recommend bringing it to the maximum values ​​- with a large number of points, they can greatly affect performance.
If you need to store versions of files for a long period - there is archiving for this.
And points are just a convenient tool for archiving and backups.
