Raspberry pi network media player?

Good day!
I bought several Rpi 3 Model B to implement a distributed media service where centralized content management is available.
The essence of the idea is that the kits (monitor + rpi) are hung on the walls in different places, where homogeneous content will be broadcast from each device, or vice versa different (for example, commercials, images, presentations).
Management is carried out centrally through a server in the local network, or through a web service (perhaps ready-made products have already been implemented), from where the client part itself ( sets ) will pull content and configuration for display.
How it is better to implement it?
Perhaps there are ready-made solutions (preferably of course free)?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

you put vlc on the server and stream with multicast, and on the clients you listen to the desired address

You can play videos from youtube.
If over the network, then from a shared folder with some kind of player. You can also pay attention to the KOdi shell.
You can also connect via rdp to the server and, as it were, from the desktop, show something.
Here is an example of how a thin client works on raspberry
