Raspberry pi as a pocket computer?

I'm studying to be an engineer, and in general I'm fond of electronic "things", recently I got hooked on programming, java is at an above average level :)
In connection with which I thought about buying this computer and almost immediately a number of questions arose:
1. How powerful is raspberry? will it be enough for me for simple tasks, at least a compass, eclipse and an office kit (libre office)?
2. Is it possible to connect a display from a smartphone or tablet to it (a mountain of broken ones is lying around)?
3. How does it cope with YouTube?
4.Only Linux distributions as operating systems?
5.Is there anything more versatile than raspberry?

Power at the level of a cheap tablet, not enough
You can, but not for you. This is not a trivial task, it requires special knowledge and skills, the one who can ask such questions does not. You can buy a special screen for Raspberry pi for the price of a cheap tablet
Normal
Raspbian - Recommended for anyone new to Raspberry Pi
Pidora - Fedora for Raspberry Pi
OpenELEC - Open source Kodi media player based on Linux
OSMC (Open Source Media Center project - formerly known as Raspbmc) Open source media player based on Kodi Media Center and Debian GNU/Linux
RISC OS - Native OS for RISC processors (which includes ARM processors)
Windows 10 support for Raspberry Pi 2B
Of course there is! This device is called a LAPTOP!!!!
Briefly speaking. Raspberry pi is a very weak but very expensive tablet. In fact, for the money that Raspberry pi + TFT screen 7" costs, you can buy a much cooler tablet with a good IPS screen

@D3lphi

You do not seem to understand that this computer is running on an ARM7 architecture processor. This means that neither windows nor ubuntu (In general, all distributions that work on a PC) can be installed on it.

@di23

You need a BU netbook, not a Raspberry Pi.

1. no
2. via gpio it seems possible
3. a friend on it held a media system for the telly, everything worked there, except for the sound, there were terrible pickups
4. https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/
5. There are analogues, but they have a smaller community and software support

On your questions:
1) For simple tasks it will suffice. Usually this is some kind of office work. And minimal programming. Also, this piece of iron is an interesting solution for mastering Linux, etc.
2) Display can be connected. But only special. The rest (from smart or the like) can be connected, but you have to find on the internet how to do it.
3) Decently copes. FullHD will have to be configured so that it does not slow down
4) In principle, yes. It seems like there is a Windows distribution, but I personally did not test it.
5) No. This is the minimum that is present at the moment.
