RAM socket not working. how to be?

I bought additional RAM for my old but good computer. Having picked up an identical RAM, I began to insert it into the second slot. Because after going through all the possible paths, I realized that the problem is hiding in the socket.
That is, as soon as I put any of the boards into the second socket, then nothing works for me, just as if I put them together. My PC is on and the black screen is on. As I understand it, the system is loading, because when it hangs (at the time of loading) it is turned off in a second (by pressing the main button), and if it boots, then in 5 seconds.
In short, how can I understand what is happening with the socket .. whether he is working or not..

Check if all legs are in place. Sometimes one or two are bent. If so, they will be immediately visible.
