Quick start in Data Science on courses from Yandex?
Hello!
I decided that I want to start a career in Data Science. This area was of interest for a long time, but I decided to develop in it only now. It's been a month since I've been taking courses on the steppe, learning Python, and in general I'm trying to "get into the subject." I outlined a rough plan: I’m going through “Python: A Book of Recipes”, “Groaming Algorithms”, after which the course “Machine Learning and Data Analysis” from Yandex and Kaggle awaits me, while I study English. In the future, of course, books on matan. However, the other day I came across paid courses from Yandex to Yandex.workshop for "Data Science Specialist", designed for 8 months for 90,000 rubles. Of the benefits: courses from Yandex with teachers from the ShAD and a portfolio of 17 projects in github, all this is based on Yandex combat data, saved time and possible serious profit. Minuses:
Dear gurus in Data Science, tell me, are these courses worth the money? If not, what do you recommend?
There is also such a moment, in 2 - maximum 3 years, I want to enter a master's program in Japan, and before that, work in a new profession for a year. There is a catastrophic lack of time, so the rates from Yandex look like a ray of light in the tunnel of uncertainty.
Briefly about myself: a recent graduate programmer, 24 years old, the main working tool of C / C ++, I work under Linux and I know it well, I worked (trained) for a year at a research institute in a robotics laboratory, now I work at an enterprise using C / C + +. I know a little Japanese (N4 ~ N3), and I also swing it in parallel. I develop technically right at work, so there is an opportunity to keep within the minimum 10 hours a week at Yandex rates.

You need a clear understanding of why you need DS.
What will you do right tomorrow on it
I suddenly realized that I want to start a career indisgusting motivation If a master's degree in Nippon is not
Hmm... Let me try to get inside your head. You think something like this: "I will now take a course from Yandex on DS, put N projects in my portfolio and a rich uncle from the USA will hire me for 100,500 thousand dollars." I guessed?
This will not happen ... You must understand why you need this very DS.
Just earning 100500 thousand money is a bad motivation.
I want a BMW X5 / an apartment in the City / a vacation in GOA, and DS pays a lot - better, but still not the same.
I am rushing from data analysis, I trudge from solving such problems. Give me 5TB of your data, leave me for a week and I'll give you the result - that's what you need.
You either get high from the very process of working with DS or it is part of some of your goals that gets you up in the morning. Then just do it and the money will come to you.
As for the courses - to try DS, you will definitely have enough of the material that is freely available on the network. If you tried and realized that you are rushing from this - go to any other courses at your discretion.
ShAD has proven itself well, why not, if there is money / desire.
In 8 months you can ride on the tops, but with a good mathematical base it will be easier and more conscious to work.
A good option would be to enroll in a Japanese master's program at the Faculty of Mathematics (econometrics, statistics, ter.ver, mathematical modeling, that's all)
How about mathematics, by the way?
if you really really want courses - Yandex is the best of the full-time available
well, and so

Masters degree and PhD in Machine learning, Business analytics, statistics, etc. will be more useful to you when looking for a job than courses from Yandex, so carefully choose a master's program and think about a PhD if you want exactly data science. there, without a PhD, you won’t earn much and they won’t take you to a serious office.

Poison courses are powerful, but they are beyond the reach of the average user on the network ... I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t give 35-50 thousand rubles for knowledge at the initial stage. That's why I'm 50% self-taught. All information was drawn from open sources YouTube, Reddit. western google. Otherwise, I found good online courses , a little cheaper, but no less informative. I passed them and at the end of the training I already closed the first 3 clients. Now I work in a company, I shovel tons of data daily remotely)
