As is, ..) installed the linux operating system from a live image., then, as a thrifty citizen, I downloaded the sources of the latest i386 version (this is the architecture of my computer), installed the default gcc, what should I do next?

What Linux distribution did you install? Why did you download the sources and, most importantly, what did you download the sources for? What does "default gcc" mean, default again for what and for whom?
