Question about SIP, VoIP gateways
Good afternoon everyone.
I have never worked with voip gateways, so my question may seem like a noob one)
Is it possible to do this: install a voip gateway, connect a telephone wire to it (from a city PBX), connect the gateway to the grid and receive calls with a softphone on a computer? Those. not connect a landline phone to the gateway, but receive calls on the computer. Is it possible to get by with one piece of iron or do you need something smarter? (A piece of iron with an asterisk installed? What is better to buy?)

Yes, you can.
For example SPA3102 from LinkSYS has one FXO and one FXS. Connect the city line to the FXO port, set up the PSTN line. then you set up your softphone for this device, and you get happiness.
If it is necessary specifically and in detail, then you need to know what gateway you have and not only.
Just remember that now not all PBXs work in tone, so on some you will not be able to make calls through the city, because. Linksys and D-Link gateways only work in tone.
