Question about installing Ubuntu 14.04.4 (?

I want to install Ubuntu next to Window XP 32bit (Third service pack) But I don't have any free hard drive. Question: If I install Ubuntu on a non-system drive, will the data be erased from it.
A 320 GB disk divided into two volumes E for 298 GB and D for 23.5 GB. I want to install on drive E on which 109 GB is free. I don’t want to reinstall Windows to split the volume into another volume (I have never done this so I could say garbage)

Previously, the Ubuntu file system partitioner was able to resize NTFS partitions without data loss, then this free space was already marked up as needed.
most likely, no one sawed this useful feature.

When you try to install Ubuntu, it will say that there is Windows nearby and will offer to stand next to it, separating a place for itself, and it will also offer you to transfer your garbage (that is, your documents) to it.

Livecd usually offers to try penguin without installation, and there is already a GParted partition editor, and then everything is simple and beautiful (but long).
On the resize operation, no data is lost (unless it fails).
