I will assume that in this case the book itself, which describes the calculation methodology, is protected by copyright. You can safely use the technique, but not the text or pieces of code from the book. "Copyright does not cover ideas, methods, processes, systems, methods, concepts, principles, discoveries, facts." - Law of the Russian Federation "On Copyright and Related Rights" article 6, paragraph 4. In the States, probably the same. After all, the author published the technique in the book in order to use it.
