Print from device to computer (virtual printer)?

Is it possible to implement this scheme, and if so, tell me where to dig?
There is a device, it has the ability to send data for printing (via usb or lpt).
It is necessary that the data is not sent to the printer, but to the computer for subsequent processing.
As I understand it, there are 2 problems.

• The problem of organizing a connection, say a simple usb cable will not work.
  
• Writing a driver for the host.

purely theoretically, for an abstract horse in a vacuum, data from lpt can be removed and tried to be processed, but I have big doubts that such a "device" exists in nature at all, and if it does exist, it is 99.999% linux or windows on it, so remove this "data" can also be programmatically
