Play movies from hdd on samsung tv

In general, the situation is as follows - they bought a TV with Smart TV, bought an HDD, the telly itself flashed it as a storage for recorded programs, fs - ext4. Tried to throw a movie - does not see. I formatted it from the laptop, uploaded the movie - I saw .trashes, but it does not see the files on the disk itself.
I don’t mind buying movies - I bought an ivi subscription, but for starters, not everything is there, and I also want to watch 3d films, and I don’t really want to pay more for their rent than a movie ticket costs.
Any advice is welcome

I don’t know what you were asking for there, I have a Samsung for about 5 years, if not more, it perfectly sees a terabyte HDD and reads almost all formats without problems. FS doesn't care either, it sees FAT32/NTFS/ExFat and even Mac OS Ext. (But the truth sometimes does not see some of the files)
New last year's Samsung sees mkv better because there are more codecs.
Are you sure you go there? Plug in the hdd and press the media button on the remote.

@svd71_1 , @L3n1n , please pay attention to the clarification - fs picked up. It remains to decide on the format of films in 3D ... ISO blue-ray does not read
