Participation in Open Source projects

There are probably a lot of people who would like to participate in Open Source projects, but, alas, they don’t know where and to whom to contact ... Therefore, I decided to create a question so that they could throw off information about such projects here (link, who is needed, etc.) I hope such people live on Habré and will let you know.

In the comments to this post, they wrote about one project: jtalks.org - they write an engine for forums, blogs, etc. in Java. Mostly Juniors participate.

I never understood people looking for "some kind of open source project" to participate.
I don’t believe at all that there are people who used different software and at the same time did not encounter problems that prevent them from achieving their goal effectively.
Did it ever occur to you to start with the problems that prevent YOU from living?

And I'm just starting an open source project. But the topic is very specific: a 5-axis CNC machine simulator (later a generic prog for it). Although there are many different tasks here, from making a beautiful interface and 3D graphics to wild mathematics with algorithms and GPGPU. I just need to find time to describe everything beautifully, I still can’t find time for this. I can’t pay for bureaucratic reasons, but the experience will definitely be interesting. And if there is a good person (al even a few good people) who is interested in this, it will be possible to invite to the states for graduate school to study and work further on the project. Is this interesting at all?

To begin with, I would advise you to read a little more. No offense.
Only on Habré, with a cursory glance, you can freely find several dozen Open Source projects for every taste. There is a whole carload of such projects on any forum of programmers.
Or do you need a personal invitation?
