Online storage for static?

Tell me, a working online data storage (similar to Amazon S3) for static files (photos) for a startup.
Google Storage for Devs is not working yet. They promise to send an invite when they launch.

Isn't it more profitable to store them on a cheap VPS under nginxom or do you have any special requirements?

Amazon S3, in principle, is not so expensive, well, in general, you can see all sorts of CDNs (there is a list of companies on Wikipedia)
