One-way file synchronization between the Android app and the website. How are you doing?

The JSON files of the application and the site need to be synchronized. The application at the right time (when?) climbs to the site via http (or do you prefer other options?) And receives a new file (is it checked by time, version or volume?)
Is it possible to synchronize via play.google? What are the pros and cons of different methods?

Make an http request with the file name and the md5 parameter of the file (this is better than time, version and volume).
If there is a new version, then the server returns the file and the answer is 200. No? Answer - 304
