On what to write effects for a webcam?

Hello! My colleagues and I are trying to develop the "next" webcam effects service like this one: https://webcamtoy.com/ru/ . We are trying to do this on p5.js - an interpreter of the processing language, but the output image is incredibly buggy, with more or less complex mathematical calculations, the frame rate drops to God forbid 10 frames per minute, in connection with this the question is - what is easier to write such applications on or how to optimize p5.js for things like this?
