On what operating system to deploy the machine for backup?

Hello everyone, tell me from your experience. I have machine 1 on proxmox and machine 2 for backup.
Previously, I used a Windows server for backups, but now I want to switch to linux, I’m looking at centos, but what can you tell me? on what system is it safer to do this?

in terms of efficiency - to put a windows server (worth more than 20t.r.) for such a simple task is an overkill.
linux is free (or very cheap, if you take the same redhat), but it can be more difficult for someone to work with it than with windows, but this is the price we pay for free/opensource/freedom...
Put linux, no options, as it is more flexible and provides more options and more complex configurations to solve your problems. If anything, the regular windows 10 backup tool (it's called windows 7 backup and restore) perfectly stacks backups on a samba share hosted on linux and this is just one of the configuration options ... if there is no need to copy file permissions, then linux without problems, he can connect to the windows ball himself and make backups on a schedule, incl. using shadow copy if necessary, so it's not clear to me why some people think that windows has no alternative here

Well, that's the question. It depends on what and how to backup ... for some applications, you need an SMB share for Windows, for others - NFS for Linux, for others - S3 object storage, for fourths a git repository, for fifths - a separate storage system, and for some purposes a hardware tape array .

It is safer to do this on the system that you know how to configure.
In this regard, Windows is no worse than Linux, if you know how to work with Windows - it can also work for years without rebooting and not fail. The question is in direct hands.
