There are guys like this: www.system76.com
I'm thinking about getting such a laptop for web development (LAMP, Rails) from them. 90% of the time I will work with a 22" monitor connected):
14.1" HD LED Display with Super Glossy Surface ( 1366 x 768 )
Intel HD Graphics 3000
2nd Generation Intel Core i5-2430M Processor ( 3MB L3 Cache, 2.40GHz )
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 2 X 4GB
500GB 7200rpm SATA Hybrid Hard Drive with 4GB SSD
8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive
Internal 802.11 B+G+N Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Combo Module
For $783 without shipping.
What do you think? Costs? And then I practically do not understand iron.
And does anyone have experience ordering these laptops? How about delivery to Ukraine?

Iron, for this price, is excellent, but as for the order and delivery, alas, I can’t say anything =)
I don’t know about these, but Alienware is also cool and makes custom laptops.
Recently I put myself an OCZ Vector 128Gb in the slot from DVD, and on top of all this Fusion Drive , there is a lot of space, the speed is cosmic. Before that, there was just 8Gb of memory, heaven and earth. From a memory update, there is practically no sense, but from an ssd, an increase in speed by an order of magnitude. I have MBP 13" Early 2011. I write for iOS, Photoshop, AppCode, Xcode. AppCode has become generally 10 times faster, so your PhpShtorm will work the same way.
If it starts to freeze due to open programs, then you need exactly the RAM.
An SSD will only help you run what is installed on it faster ... Plus, in small things.
Memory is cheap now. Take two 8 GB modules at once.
SSD is a plus. If you leave the HDD, then 64 GB should be enough, there are only OS and programs.
You need to buy another 4GB of RAM + ssd for 128-256GB - this should solve the problem.
ps: ssd only instead of hdd, and hdd instead of a floppy drive if necessary.
The disk, as already mentioned, OCZ Vertex 4 120 Gb and more, and even better, install ssd in such a thing instead of a sd drive in order to save the volume of a regular disk and add ssd speed by installing a system and basic applications on it. And stick two slats at once, 8 Gb each, no matter what you think.
4 + 2 will not be ok, since the controller is dual-channel, you need to take 4 + 4
SSD - any from 100GB (as a rule, the larger the capacity, the higher the speed), from 400MB the speed in both directions, preferably NOT with a sandforce controller - there will be problems with it when TRIM is enabled
The SSD helps PHPStorm a lot - it likes to use the disk. The experience of working with this IDE on SSD and HDD cannot be compared.
I'm using 4+4GB RAM and 128GB Samsung 830 + 500GB HDD (in FusionDrive)
Everything works great.
crazyASD , you write everything correctly. I’ll just clarify: as far as I know (I don’t have one myself yet), you can install memory, including in the latest Pro. But not in Retina versions. In the Retina MacBook, the memory is irreplaceable, like the Air, soldered. But not in Retina, in my opinion, all this is possible, yes, both memory and hard drives.
hell0w0rd , in principle, I agree. Apple always puts enough. 8 should be enough, unless you use virtual machines along with other software. I have just this case, so 8 is not enough for me.
