Not optimal screen mode, recommended resolution...?

When you start the game sindicate 2012 on an old square monitor, a black screen pops up a window with the inscription given in the title, samsung monitor, win7 OS. Neither ctrl + alt + del nor alt + f4 saves from this window, only a reboot. What to do,?
