Good afternoon!
There is a news portal on industry topics, it is planned to monetize through relevant advertising of an online souvenir shop of the industry. Is it worth allocating an online store to a separate site (and promoting it separately), or can you make a category / subdomain on the same site?
Interested in the answer from the point of view of search engine optimization: internal linking, promoting an online store with articles (blog). In the case of one domain, there will be a "skew" towards news articles - can this affect the issuance of the pages of the online store (+/-).

If by a news portal you mean a regular blog, then hang it on the same domain and make it into a regular section. Like here - mascva.ru

And if you really have a Mega-Portal there with different topics, a large number of participants, and so on and so forth, then it is obvious that both of these resources need to be done on different domains.
