We need to find a worthy alternative to the legendary Asus WL500gp. Very desirable:
- As stable
- With support for alternative firmware
- With support for USB and various peripherals (3g modem, camera)

Optional, but pleasant:
- Gigabit network

Budget: up to 5k

About Mikrotiki: there are no alternative firmware for them, there are no additional applications. Basically.
To understand what Mikrotik is and whether it is needed here, imho first it makes sense to play around in VirtualBox with a free one-day version of RouterOS for x86: www.mikrotik.com/download/routeros-x86-6.5.torrent

I would recommend ASUS RT-N66U, a powerful router, gigabit, 2 bands, with alternative firmware (I have Tomato) supports a huge amount of peripherals (now there is a Huawei E3276 modem for Yota, it works without problems). Yes, and he looks very cool.

If the WL500gp stops working - the problem is in the power supply, it is easily solved, the capacitor swells there, it needs to be replaced and will work for many, many more years.
