Network part of Unity3D, switching to another OS?

Hello, this is the third time this day, I hope this is my last question here, since I understood almost everything or not.
I decided to get into game development, before that I was a layout designer, I immediately chose Unity3d, I chose c# as the programming language, because I always thought of working with windows applications.
Then I decided to implement a network mechanism in Unity3D, my hoster does not provide VDS services, so that I host my server, I chose FIRSTVDS for myself, talked with those support, the price of a monthly payment is almost 1000 rubles, the price includes Windows Server 2012 r2 OS and VDS itself Well, this is where the problem arose.
I work on a project on weekends, it’s not expensive for me to pay 250-300, but not 1000, I was still going to figure out the mechanism, what and how.
Unity3D can also work on another OS, well, they were somehow friends with ubuntu, only if I switch, I can no longer work with a database from Microsoft SQL Server, with the ADO.Net platform, and I was just going to work with it.
So this is the essence of the question, switch to another OS or choose another hoster, but which one (for a beginner) and with Microsoft OS, even Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 will go so that it can be installed (for starters)

Considering the nature of your development, Azure BizSpark is just your case, at least you will be given 5000-6000 rubles. per month "services" of cloud services (VDS, etc.) for free for several years, just for the time you need to bring the project to release and get enough profit so as not to worry about "these pennies on the server."
