Netbook/laptop for work?
Actually it's time to change your mobile PC. I'll start with what I need a beech for: the main task of a laptop / netbook is to develop (Eclipse / MS Visual Studio), work with documentation, the Internet. Games are not important at all, listen to music, watch a movie. In principle, everything that is now available except for tablets with Android falls under these requirements. I outline further Wishlist. I want compactness and lightness (often you have to move around with a beech, and lying on a sofa with a light beech is much more convenient), preferably a full-sized laptop keyboard (or close to that) and a long battery life (the more the better). Based on the compactness, I consider the display size 10-12 "(I have a desktop PC, so I don't need large screens). I would also very much like Ubuntu to "lay down" on a beech without any problems.
Acer Aspire 3651WLMi
What bothered me after 5 years of use:
1. The weight is still not very convenient to carry.
2. Size, as well as item 1.
3. Operating time - 1.5 hours limit at almost minimum brightness.
4. Not working Wi-Fi (no, it didn’t break, it was like that from the factory).
5. A dead battery for 2 years of use, as a result, now I'm looking for a beech socket "in place".
6. Dead touchpad right after the end of the warranty.

I can recommend a lenovo thinkpad x220i
. A
colleague bought it at work for travel (a model for 25 tr on i3) - I had time to play around. I would take it myself if needed.
Good autonomy, durable, lightweight. The build quality and components of Lenovo's thinkpads seem to be on par.
Design is a matter of taste acc.
Samsung 900 series (although not really in your budget), Acer Timeline X ...
I can recommend Asus N10j
The keyboard is comfortable. Battery for 4 hours (with a discrete graphics card up to 5). Small, beautiful. I can’t say anything about ease (nothing to compare with). A powerful video card, though not a very powerful processor. Ubuntu runs great, as does Kubuntu and Debian. In general, completely satisfied. The main disadvantage is the price.
Here: habrahabr.ru/company/asus/blog/126762/ (Android!)
Ubuntu seems to be put there: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147062
ASUS U31J / ASUS U31JG
10+ hours, 1.8kg weight (almost like a netbook), aluminum lid, WideScreen, normal keyboard, thin, Core i3/Core i5 options (I don't know if there are Core i7 ones, I personally did not met). Well, the price - less than 30, depends on the impudence of the seller, of course.
I have an Acer TravelMate TimelineX From the fact that the link differs in the absence of an external video card.
Pros: aluminum case, matte screen, Core i5, capacious battery, Windows 7 pro
Cons: the battery protrudes beyond the case, for some reason they put buttons with dollar and euro symbols next to the arrows, there is a useless DVD-reader, no HDMI.
I took it for 28 thousand, it fully justifies its price.
