Need advice - which OS to choose?

Friends have an old laptop from which you need to achieve maximum performance, namely:

  • Model - HP 650
  • Proc - Intel / 2 cores at 2.20 GHz
  • RAM - 4 GB

There are two operating systems available:
WindowsXP sp3 (x32) and Windows7 (x64) .
Advise what is better to install in this case.
PS: I'm leaning towards XP, though it's confusing that it's 32-bit (but I'm not an expert in this matter).

Regarding the OS in this situation, I would put Win7 32bit.
Although the choice of OS will practically not affect performance, and in terms of performance, you can set any.

Damn, well, put both in turn. Or at the same time.
I agree with SyavaSyava - put the OS in this order: Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows XP.
The fact is that performance largely depends on the drivers. The newer the OS, the greater the chance to lay out the iron "to the fullest".
Again, it was necessary to put Lee ... however, yes, Linux can greatly outperform Windows in performance, but ... but. but! If you don't know how to google and generally rate your level as "lamer" (from your experience with Ubuntu you can see), then Linux is not for you. To learn how to use Linux, you need to read countless manuals. You can't just take Linux and ... use it. I speak from my experience.
