Which versions of motion and ffmpeg can run together on Linux Debian Lenny?

Just yesterday I installed and configured motion, everything was fine from deb unstable and it works (both motion and ffmpeg), writes to mpeg4, mpeg2, swf.

There are no proprietary codecs and encoders for Debian. This is especially true in more or less new versions.
This means that a very large number of video formats will not be supported by Debian.
When faced with this problem, there was a fairly simple solution - to work with Ubuntu. These problems are not there - packages with the word "restricted" in the name are simply installed.
The admin said that in production there were packages with popular codecs, encoders and demuxers for FreeBSD.
