Still alive. Suitable for small and simple sites. Business cards, catalogs or shop. Doesn't matter. The main thing is not to try to make a hypermarket.
It wins in the simplicity of layout integration.
If you're just planning to start learning MODX, then the train has left, unfortunately.
Today, MODX is catastrophically behind modern CMS in terms of technology, and it no longer "shines" to gain a significant market share. Yes, it will be possible to "feed" on it for some time. But the approach demonstrated by the platform owners, who have been unable to release a major update for almost 7 years, will not lead to anything good. Due to the fact that MODX is built on its own bikes, as its chief architect Jason Coward wrote about it 5 years ago, the knowledge that you prioritize with studying it, you can not apply anywhere else. And when demand for MODX inevitably drops, you'll be left with nothing.
If you want serious development, low competition and a touch on the future, look towards October CMS, Grav, etc. If you want money right now and are ready to compete with the Indians, take WP, it will "feed" for a long time, longer than MODX.
If you want to monetize the experience, learn Wordpress. Modx is much less popular and no better, just a different approach.
If you want universal experience and money, learn frameworks.
Tsoi is alive!
Modx is also normal)
Nothing like and no better than other CMS.
Here every d*t as he wants. I'm used to Modx and everything else seems wildly uncomfortable to me.
Yes, shops on it sculpt a separate "pleasure". There are two stores and not a single normal manual. But it's also possible.
Great system.
371 add-ons on modstore.pro are more than enough for all your fantasies.
Shops, blogs, portfolios, whatever you want to do. It makes no sense to compare with WordPress.
Why not look at:
- statistics on the use of CMS (you can also use frameworks),
- vacancies with ModX and with the same Bitrix, WP, Joomla,
- freelance orders with the same list?
Compare and decide.
And what will happen to him?
Yes, it does not have modern technologies on board at the moment, but it is ideal for most tasks. Suitable from landing pages to large online stores and corporate sites.
In the Russian-speaking segment:
- a large community of developers: https://modx.pro/
- a large community of developers in Telegram https://t.me/ru_modx
- a large marketplace https://modstore.pro/
With the advent of Fenom support, sites can now be developed a pleasure: all the delights of the template engine + everything on files.
- Work is underway on a new documentation site with a redesigned structure and appearance https://docs.modx.org/,work on the translation into Russian of the documentation also does not stop: https://docs.modx.org/current/en/index
- not in a hurry, but work is underway on the 3rd version (yes, for a very long time, but since 2018 development has been more active ). Refactoring completed. You can look at the state of affairs here https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/milestones
- on the modhost.pro website you can install and test the 3rd version of MODX Revolution.
PS: The choice is yours, no imposition
The fact that modx is not a CMS, but a CMF, and depending on the complexity of the task, it can be supplemented in any way.
The only reason Modx is alive is because there are a certain number of oldfag programmers who don't want to relearn and make websites for people who don't understand web development trends.
Applications for modx often come to freelance, but even more often wordpress and nodejs and laravel.
